The times, they are a’changin

It has been ages. I am slightly saddened I was overcome with the rest of my summer in Italy to keep up the blog. I will try to fill in some stories of my time there, and my adventures since then.

Such a long time ago now. Yet I can easily recall the places and faces. I spent much of the rest of that summer on the same farm, the Borgo della Colomba. French WWOOFer left, hans stayed, and then Clemence and Stephanie showed up, from Northern France. Spent 3 weeks with them on the farm, then travelled to Siena again with the two of them, before they went on to Barcelona. Before leaving the farm, I got the chance to see Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in Sarzana. In a castle. Under the stars. Incredible. Hung out after, spent some time chattin with the band, exchanging dirty jokes and talking music. Met Wynton, and got the onligatory photo to prove it. Lovely evening. Then at 1 in the morning in my dress clothes I hiked back up the 11km to the farm. =)

Also met 2 wonderful young gals from Israel, and hiked the Cinque Terre again.

Spent my last 10 days on the Spannochia farm, south of Siena. Gorgeous hillside, beautiful farm, super fun folks. I was volunteering with this other huy, and there were 8 20-something interns from America and Canada. We had so many god times. Had a full moon party in a castle, The castle that only God Knows.

So much fun. Wine, bonfire, swing dancing, ridiculous antics and crashing on yoga mats under the stars. <3 that place.

After 10 days there (which I will probably revisit sometime) I spent one night in a hostel in Rome, hung out with some folks from Detroit and Arkansas, and had a blast. Flew back to the states, spent a semester at Swat miserable and unhappy, though not fragile, and decided I’d had enough and came back to Duluth.

Spent the Spring rock climbing, started working, and then in August got a call from a friend. I spent from September 1 to November 22 on board the Mystic Whaler, a steel-hull schooner, sailing mostly in the Chesapeake Bay out of Baltimore and Annapolis. The last 3 weeks we spent hauled out in the steel yard in Providence, RI. Oh god, sooooo many stories from the boat. I’ll be keeping up on that soon.

Now. Back in Duluth for another month or so, then back out to the Whaler for the Clearwater Season on the Hudson River. Met some super cool folks in town. Been inspired. Read some Rumi.

And yes. Love. You. All.

  1. Awesome to see you writing again! When can we climb? Or get together and swap stories and philosophies? We live in the same town for a little bit longer, let’s do that… :)
